So, the NC State guy had a good year, too. He was a RSFR, but ok, he only threw one interception, went for 20 touchdowns combined, and he took his team to a bowl game. I get it. I understand how he could have been slotted ahead of Griffin for first team freshman all-american.
But CFN putting Terrelle Pryor as the 2nd team FAA is ridiculous. He’s surrounded by a tremendous cast, loaded with talent, he’s playing for a historically incredible program, and he played in one of the weaker BCS conferences.
Pryor threw one more interception than Griffin (4) on 115 fewer pass attempts (152). He threw for 3 fewer TDs as well. Four of his 12 passing touchdowns came against Troy, which as we all know is a traditional powerhouse, leaving 8 TDs for the rest of the year. Pryor only threw 5 TDs against teams with winning records. He also rushed for 290 yards less than Griffin. Pryor also had the most talented running back in the nation in Beanie Wells next to him in the backfield, and was playing for an established coach in an established program.
Griffin walked onto the field as the youngest starting quarterback in the nation, playing for a team that hasn’t been to a bowl game in 14 years, and had never finished out of the cellar of the Big XII South. He was also playing in the toughest division in college football, playing two ranked teams in non-conference, and played a top 25 team in Missouri from the northern division. He improved every game he played, broke the NCAA streak for most passes to start a career without throwing an interception. The funny thing about that is that he threw more attempts without an interception to start his career than Pryor threw all year regardless of number of interceptions.
Bottom line, it’s basically a travesty that Griffin is relegated to honorable mention status for this team. CFN should be ashamed of themselves.
