Recruiting Season Rules

I know that football is over but basketball season really doesn’t start for me until the conference games start. Unless we get an automatic bid for winning the unofficial SWAC championship, I’m just not that interested.  However, from the end of bowl season to early February there will no doubt be much discussion on the players [...]

ESPN: Top 25 Big XII Players According to Tom Griffin

Tom Griffin, ESPN Big XII Blogger, wrote this post about the Top 25 Players in the Big XII.  While he set the list up as if he were “drafting” Big XII players, you could tell he was really just ranking them, as he had two QBs in his first 4 players “taken”.  Jason Smith came [...]

Jason Smith named 1st team All-American

Jason Smith received a fantastic honor, and one he deserves, when he was named to the All-American First Team by the Football Writers Association of America.  Smith was not only a terrific player, one of the main reasons Griffin was able to have as much success as he did last year, he was also a [...]

Griffin Named HM Freshman All-American - WHAT!?

So, the NC State guy had a good year, too.  He was a RSFR, but ok, he only threw one interception, went for 20 touchdowns combined, and he took his team to a bowl game.  I get it. I understand how he could have been slotted ahead of Griffin for first team freshman all-american.
But CFN [...]

Griffin Named Freshman All-American

Robert Griffin added another kudo to his long list of awards: First Team Freshman All-American by Sporting News, per BaylorBears.com.  Congratulations to Griffin. He’s also been named Honorable Mention Freshman All-American by CollegeFootballNews, which will be discussed in the following blog post, because frankly, it deserves its own space.

Bears Add Two New Recruits

Briles and Co. picked up two very important recruits this past week, Danny Watkins (4* JUCO OL) and Chance Casey (3* HS ATH/CB).
The Watkins pickup further solidifies what is already a very strong OL class, and will fill in some missing maturity at the position.  Watkins is another Canadian player recruited by Briles (the others [...]

What’s Next? Part Two

This past year the defense was an up and down affair, but as the season progressed, the intensity level did nothing but increase and even when out of bowl contention, they played with determination and pride. It’s been a while since you could say that about a Baylor defense. Even in a conference loaded with explosive offenses, the defense held their own and for the most part contributed to putting the team in a position to win the game. It’s not likely that we’ll be able to duplicate the fantastic turnover margin that we had this year, but with an improved defensive line and a better pass rush, we should be able to again have a strong defense in the takeaway department, and be more sound in the other facets of the game.

Let’s get to the breakdown…

What’s next?

So, the season is over, but where does that leave us? Well, of course Basketball season is just warming up, and there’s plenty to talk about there (and I will be), but let’s put a bit more of a capper on the football season and a preview to 2009.

I won’t be in-depth about recruiting, and will only comment on those prospects that have already gone public with their choice for Baylor, but we’ll take a hard look at the returning players and those players that redshirted last year in two sections. Offense first.

What does the future hold?

It’s been a while since BruinsBold.com was active, but I’m coming out of a period where I basically lived, ate and breathed work.  It was pretty terrible.  I’m taking a bit better stock of things, and doing what I want to do for myself, and one of the great loves of my life is Baylor [...]
